Recap:
I grew up with near chronic stomach discomfort. Finally 3 years ago, my (then) vegan friend (AJ aka user johnny_class) gave me a piece of his gluton free soy chocolate birthday cake. Each bite fell on my stomach like a rock. By the time I was clutching at my stomach kealed over, Johnny brillantly realised soy wasn't my friend. I began to cut back on soybeans and tofu and immediately felt a great difference. Then I decided to check ingredients and wouldn't you know it: it's in bloody everything. all chocolat bars (soy lechitin), 95% of pre-made food, cookies/crackers, Campbell's chicken noodle soup (*sniff*), just everywhere. If it isn't a drink or organic, it's probably got soy in it.

I've been torn since. I enjoy eating all these things with soy but the stomach pains need to end. I'm told I have to cut it out of my diet all together for a few years and then I'll get over the intolerance. So I've been doing it in stages. First, no more buying soy happy ingredients at the groceries. Now I have found half a dozen snacks I can have at work that contain no soy derivatives. Next, figuring out how to eat out without resorting to only salad without dressing. (go ahead, check your salad dressing!) It'll be one more thing forcing me to eat at home more, so the wallet will appreciate that too. My liver wil definietly benefit from the reduction in junkfood consumption as well.
